Removable Partial Dentures in Woodland Hills
An important step in maintaining a healthy smile is to replace missing teeth. When teeth are missing, the remaining ones can change position, drifting into the surrounding space. Teeth that are out of position can damage tissues in the mouth. In addition, it may be difficult to clean thoroughly between crooked teeth. As a result, you run the risk of tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease, which can lead to the loss of additional teeth.
As an experienced prosthodontist who specializes in helping patients with teeth replacement solutions, Dr. Bandary is happy to offer removable partial dentures to patients who are missing multiple teeth.
A removable partial denture (RPD) is for a partially edentulous dental patient who desires to have replacement teeth for functional or esthetic reasons, and who cannot have a bridge (a fixed partial denture) for any number of reasons, such as a lack of required teeth to serve as support for a bridge or due to financial limitations.
A partial denture helps you to properly chew food, a difficult task when you are missing teeth. In addition, a denture may improve speech and prevent a sagging face by providing support for lips and cheeks.
Most partial denturesare usually kept in place by clasps. These are thin finger-like projections of special resilient metal alloy, or, in certain cases, plastic or plastic-like materials. (Valplast or Flexite)
Types of Removable Partial Dentures: (RPD)
I) Non Metallic (RPD) biocompatible, Non Allergenic, (Valplast & Flexite)
They are advanced solutions for the replacement of missing teeth, it is based on modern thermo plastic technology (Nylon-like material) this material most commonly Valplast and Flexite generally replace the metal and the pink acrylic denture material used to build the framework for standard removable partial dentures.
Flexite Partial Dentures:
- Flexite is a light flexible plastic that fits comfortably over your teeth and gums.
- Flexite is bio compatible(non allergic), Monomer Free which has no dangerous chemicals to react with your body
- Flexite is aesthetic and blends in with your gums.
- Flexite eliminates the metallic taste of metal partial and there are no unsightly clasps.

II) The Treatment Partial Denture (Flippers) This is the least expensive removable partial denture, has a pink acrylic base, the same material that used in standard full denture, and with wrought clasps. Flippers are most frequently retained with a wrought clasps over remaining natural teeth.
Disadvantages the acrylic denture base tend to break frequently, also they are mach less stable then regular removable partial denture (cast metal removable partial denture)
III) Cast Metal Removable Partial Dentures Probably one of the oldest forms of partial dentures, since the cast metal frame work sit on the teeth, as well as being attached to them, they are very stable and retentive.
The largest single advantage that cast metal frame work partial dentures have over other partial dentures is that sore spots are a less of issue. The disadvantage is metal hooks might show, which aesthetically might be unpleasant.
